Data source
All dialysis facility data displayed on DialysisCenterUSA is sourced from the CMS Dialysis Facility Compare (DFC) dataset, published by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and available through the CMS Provider Data Catalog at data.cms.gov. This dataset is in the public domain. We import each quarterly release within one week of CMS publication.
DialysisCenterUSA is not affiliated with, endorsed by, funded by, or operated in partnership with CMS or any agency of the United States government. References to CMS and government data are for sourcing purposes only.
Not medical advice
DialysisCenterUSA is an informational resource, not a medical provider, clinical advisory service, or substitute for professional medical consultation. No content on this site should be used to make treatment decisions without the guidance of a licensed nephrologist or qualified healthcare professional who has evaluated your individual medical circumstances.
CMS star ratings and standardized outcome ratios are statistical tools designed for population-level comparison. They do not predict individual patient outcomes at a specific facility and should not be interpreted as guarantees of care quality for any individual patient.
Data limitations
CMS data has well-documented limitations that we encourage users to understand:
- Data lag: Star ratings and outcome ratios reflect past performance — typically data from 12 to 24 months prior to the most recent release. Recent changes in facility management, staffing, or protocols may not yet be reflected.
- Statistical reliability: Facilities with a small patient population (fewer than roughly 11 patients) may have suppressed or less statistically reliable ratios. A ratio based on a small sample is inherently less stable than one based on a large sample.
- New facilities: Facilities certified within the last 12 to 24 months may lack sufficient historical data to receive star ratings or standardized ratios.
- Patient mix adjustment: CMS adjusts ratios for patient demographics and comorbidities, but no adjustment is perfect. Facilities serving higher-risk patient populations may appear to perform worse even if their care is equivalent or better.
- Ownership data: Chain affiliation is taken directly from CMS reporting and may not reflect recent ownership changes.
Independence
DialysisCenterUSA is independently operated and has no financial relationship with DaVita, Fresenius Medical Care, or any other dialysis chain operator. No facility or chain has paid for listing placement, enhanced visibility, suppression of data, or any other influence over how information is displayed on this site.
References to DaVita, Fresenius Medical Care, and other companies on this site are based on publicly available CMS data and published regulatory records. We do not represent these companies and they have not reviewed or approved any content on this site.
No endorsement
The listing of any facility on this site is not an endorsement of that facility or its services. A high CMS star rating does not constitute our recommendation of a facility, and a low rating does not constitute a warning against using it. Patients should evaluate multiple factors — including their nephrologist’s recommendation, geographic proximity, scheduling needs, and personal circumstances — when choosing a dialysis provider.
